one of my favorite things to do in my free time is read inspirational poetry, especially the works of Rumi and Hafiz.
Hafiz is a 14th century Persian poet who lived at about the same time as Geoffrey Chaucer. His love for the divine shines through in his poetry. All of these works are from The Gift, a collection of poems translated by Daniel Ladinsky. A friend who gave me this book introduced it to me as "life changing," and it really has been.
Rumi is another Sufi poet who lived about 100 years before Hafiz. All of the works below have been translated by Kabir and Camille Helminski in The Rumi Collection. My first introduction to Rumi came after meeting a girl named Rumi during a summer internship in Boston in 2000. I came home and was missing her so much that I started reading the works of the poet -- and found an entire new universe in his works.
