Adventures Abroad

in addition to learning tons of ophthalmology, going abroad has been fabulously fun!!

the best part about being abroad are the great people that i have the opportunity to connect with.

also, for the first time, i was living alongside nature when i was in Nepal - when i looked out my window, i saw wild bees, monkeys, goats, dogs, and deer  - and just a short walk outside the hospital gates, buffalo, cows, and puppies were waiting to greet me :)

please see the pictures and videos below.

In the center of the photo is Dr. Bidya, the director of the Geta Eye Hospital and a phenomenal teacher and surgeon.

Subash Bhatta (left), Zahra Ali (center), Deepak Khadka, (right). Dr. Subash was one of my closest friends at Geta; he showed me how the clinic and OR was run on my first day. All of the educational materials (posters, sheets for patients to take home, etc) we made were a joint effort among the two of us. Dr. Deepak is a super-genius; he has been at Geta Eye Hospital for 4 years and knows the answer to any medical ophthalmology question you can come up with!!
While the picture was being taken, the onlookers kept on saying "phet undar, phet undar" (suck the stomach in) to the two physicians to my left and right, Dr. Deepak and Dr. Arjun. Oh em gee.

The entire operating theatre crew and some of the ophthalmic assistant students.

Two of the operating room "sisters," Sampathi and Radha. They came to be close friends of mine by the end of my visit and had me wishing I could stay in Nepal longer!!

Beautiful Nepali women + one imposter ;)
